Over weight dogs
Q: I have scottish terrier & schnauzer(mut). they get walked daily. recently put them on hills r/d foot for weight reduction. first week. they both did well switching foods cost is @ $3.00 a day. is there an equal product less costly available through you? both dogs weigh 23 to 25lbs. schnauzer is 12years old. scottie is 8 years old.
A: Sorry, currently we do not carry dog food.

Ear infections
Q: My black lab chief has chronic ear infections my husband about every two weeks when it gets real bad cleans them and puts medicine in them. my question is could he take a pill that would actually clear up the infection. i believe he never gets rid of the actual infection. help (he's 4 years old and 115 lbs.) big dog.
A: Have him seen by your veterinarian.

Pet with seizure disorder
Q: My beloved rottweiler has had seizures for two years. the dog suddenly developed these symtoms. during two aggressive and violent arguments my un-neutered pet became aggressive and attacked my husband who was threating me, i was bitten trying to stop my pet from biting my husband then 17 days later my dog attacked my daughter after she became violent with me again. i was bitten during the incident my daughter was not. my question is has the dog suffered brain damage from his seizures and is going to have to be put to sleep. the dog has never attacked or harmed anyone prior to these two occasions. he felt i was being threatened. does the dog have any chance of his behavior being stopped if he was neutered and the mitigating circumstances violent arguments being stopped of returning to his normal behavior or should the dog be put down?he is normally very protective of me my daughter and my husband. has the dog just become blood thirsty or was he acting in a normal fashion. after the attacks he is his old self again demure nad he seems to know that he has done something wrong. my real question is can this type of behavior be excpected from him from now on out?would he be a candidate for a rottweiler rescue program? will this dog attack again for no reason or can extra precautions be takes to prevent the dog from biting
A: Tough one to give definitive advice on. i would see vet specialist in behavior for best chance at combination of behavior mdoficiation as well as possible drug therapies. some of these dogs need to be put to sleep howeever due to unpredictaablity

Cushings disease
Q: I recently was told by my vet that my mini dachshund may have cushings disease. i will have the test to determine for sure this is the case, but i want to know what my options are for treating the disease and also what complications could occur if untreated.
A: You should have multiple diagnostic tests including considering both blood tests and ultrasound to look at adrenals. acth stim test or low dose dex suppression blood tests are ones to consider but some dogs have false positive test results which is why you want to also have ultrasound. options for treatment include drugs known as lysodren, ketaconazole and anipryl all of which have pros and cons. if untreated some dogs develop secondary infections from excess blood cortisol as well as being more prone to diabetes, and blood clots to organs due to hypertensive state which can lead to organ problems as well

Generic med vs. name brand
Q: I have a 3 month old german shepherd and i am getting ready to start her on heart worm meds. i wanted to know which would be the best way to go? the cost is important in some ways, but if its better for my dog, i'll spend a little extra. also what's the best in flea and tick meds? thanks and best regards.
A: You can save money by using iverhart plus which is the generic equivalent for heartgard plus.

Confused?
Q: I have two kittens about 7 months old who just recently got neutered and declawed. they are both from indoor cats and from the same litter and are my only cats. one of the kitten's stool sample was tested during their recent vet visit and was negative. they said they only needed to test from one kitten because if it was positive it would show up in both kittens. then tonight, my kitten vomited (he ate dog food earlier so i'm not sure if thats what its from) and there were two (waht looked like) worms in the vomit. they looked like roundworms (long, whitish colored ones). if they were tested just a few weeks could it be possible they just recently got infected with the worms? if so, how? is it even worms at all? would it be too late if i called the vet on monday? today is sunday and they are closed. any help would be much appreciated!
A: Some cats can have hidden round worms even though stool checks can be normal no worry or problem. simply worm both kittens with good wormer like pyrantel or nemex
