Eye is swollen from scratching.Q: What kind of medicine can i get for my dog eyes. they always have cold in them no matter how much i clean them. he scatch his eye from trying to get the the cold out. A: Take him to vet for complete exam and workup. he could have allergies causing this or a primary eye problem. in meantime you could try benadryl at dose of 1/2 to 1 mg per pound of body weight up to twice daily to see if helps with itching
Pet with seizure disorderQ: My beloved rottweiler has had seizures for two years. the dog suddenly developed these symtoms. during two aggressive and violent arguments my un-neutered pet became aggressive and attacked my husband who was threating me, i was bitten trying to stop my pet from biting my husband then 17 days later my dog attacked my daughter after she became violent with me again. i was bitten during the incident my daughter was not. my question is has the dog suffered brain damage from his seizures and is going to have to be put to sleep. the dog has never attacked or harmed anyone prior to these two occasions. he felt i was being threatened. does the dog have any chance of his behavior being stopped if he was neutered and the mitigating circumstances violent arguments being stopped of returning to his normal behavior or should the dog be put down?he is normally very protective of me my daughter and my husband. has the dog just become blood thirsty or was he acting in a normal fashion. after the attacks he is his old self again demure nad he seems to know that he has done something wrong. my real question is can this type of behavior be excpected from him from now on out?would he be a candidate for a rottweiler rescue program? will this dog attack again for no reason or can extra precautions be takes to prevent the dog from biting A: Tough one to give definitive advice on. i would see vet specialist in behavior for best chance at combination of behavior mdoficiation as well as possible drug therapies. some of these dogs need to be put to sleep howeever due to unpredictaablity
Hypo-thyroidQ: Hi - i have a 13 year old red dobe - she has been on solixine .06 for quite some time now, for a thyroid condition, which if memory serves me correctly, is for a condition called "hypo-thryoid". she was recently tested again and the dosage is appropriate (60lbs). my question is, i am looking for an alternative place to purchase her medicine. the local vet seems to be making a fortune off us! (monthly dosage = $30). it seems high to me, any suggestions? -jamie A: We have both soloxine and the generic equivalent levothyroxine in our pharmacy. please call for our price. also be aware that if you choose to go with the generic, it will probably be necessary to re-titrate your dog after a short adjustment period to be assured of proper blood levels.
Leg weaknessQ: My 12 yr old mixed breed has been having weakness in his back legs. he has been on glyco.flex i for about 2 yrs. as he gets older, he is having more difficulty getting up & down stairs. should we stay with the glyco i or is it time to go to glyco.flex 2 or 3 ? also he is on zubrin. thanks ! A: I would indeed graduate to likely glycoflex iii from your description. also add flax seed oil to food at dose of 1 tea per 20 pounds of body weight daily and give antioxidant vitamins like vitamin e at dose of 400iu daily and vitamin c in form of ester c at dose of 1000 mg twice daily
Shop for: vitamin, zubrin Chewing and diggingQ: My rot is constantly scratching and digging. her fur is falling out and i don't know what to do. i was told that it was her dogfood because of corn being the main ingrediant. is that a correct assumption? if so what would be a good and affordable brand of dogfood? A: Corn mayor may not be involved. can have allergies to any ingredients. io would try low allergy natural diet such as wellness fish and potato or california natural lamb and rice diet by natura. if no help after 6 weeks, then you might want to have inhalent allergy workup via skin or blood allergy testing at vet dermatologist
My daughters dogQ: About 6 months ago my daughter brought home a mixed breed puppy that her friend gave her. about 3 months ago we noticed that the puppy had started scrathing all the time so we thought the puppy may have fleas so we gave her a bath with flea shampoo and put a flea collar on her. about a week or so after we noticed she started loosing her fur on either side of her stomach and there are little black dots on her skin and she still hasn't stopped scratching since. my daughter is convienced the puppy has cancer. what should we do for the poor thing, that wouldnt be to exspensive, money is an issue being a single mother of 4 but still wanting to give my kids the joy of having a puppy in our home. A: Have puppy checked for mange at your vet via skin scrape. if no mites then could be simply an allergy which would need allergy medicine to control
